Watanabe was reportedly born in March 1907. He has worked as a factory employee and a staff member of the Niigata Prefectural Government, and has worked in agriculture since his retirement. He has 5 sons, 12 grandchildren (daughters), 16 great-grandchildren (daughters), and 1 grandson.

On February 12th, Watanabe Tomochi was awarded the Guinness Book of World Records certification for "the world's longest-lived man."

He was certified by the Guinness World Records as "the longest living man in the world" in a nursing home where he stayed on the 12th. At that time, he took the certificate, took the commemorative picture with spirit, and beside him was the "world first" calligraphy work written by himself.

However, according to Watanabe's daughter-in-law, after being certified as the "longest-lived man in the world," he gradually lost his appetite and started infusion. On the 21st, he developed fever symptoms and his physical condition deteriorated, and died on the 23rd.
