Wednesday's premiere of the debate program Sweden meets: Directly with the theme of integration and segregation would have been sent from the cultural center Kronan in Trollhättan. SVT's editorial staff had contacted the City of Trollhättan with requests to be there, and it was agreed that the library could be suitable several weeks ago.

But on Thursday the municipality suddenly changed its decision and proposed that the production be moved to the N3 School of Culture, in another district.

"Can have the opposite effect"

According to Jorun Collin, project manager for the program, the motivation stated that the risk of the broadcast would be too great from a democracy and citizen's point of view and that it would further stigmatize the area.

- In general, I can understand that fear, but we have a rigorous security mindset about our broadcast. I find it difficult to see that our broadcast from Kronogården would have stigmatized the area. The risk is rather the movement away from it does, she says.

Could not have regular operations

Trollhättan's city director Ulrika Strandroth Frid says that she made the decision after consulting the police and relevant parts of the municipality's operations. The main reason, according to her, is that the live broadcast could not be separated from other activities in the premises and that it would be difficult to meet the interest that the broadcast would create.

- Normally, we have local media that carry on journalism in the business continuously without any problems. After all, it is important that all authorities and businesses and residents feel secure and can carry on their work throughout the city. But just from this program's design and orientation, we see that it can cause concern in Kronogården and therefore it was better to change from Kronan to N3.

Participants in the program will include Liberal Party leaders Nyamko Sabuni, Trollhättan Municipal Councilor Paul Åkerlund (S) and Joakim Lamotte. Accommodation in Kronogården is also invited.
