In January, it was revealed that SD Regional Council David Perez was being investigated by the Swedish Tax Agency, which said he had moved unreported assets to his company. The case was part of a special review of hidden income in tax havens.

The Swedish Tax Agency finally decided that David Perez would pay just over six million, which he has rejected while claiming that the Swedish Tax Agency's decision is based on incorrect information.

Since then, David Perez has taken over the club in the Sweden Democrats in Uppsala, after the then chairman Simon Alm was excluded from the party on the grounds that he had "countered and ousted" members and employees.

Free one year

David Perez was also expected to replace Paula Bieler (SD) who recently left the parliament, but has now been given leave. The leave period runs from February 29 and one year on.

In connection with Bieler's departure, David Perez wrote on Facebook that there was a lot of work in the region and that he needed time to get into his new role as chairman.

"That is why it feels best to wait a while, I really need to know what is best for the party and what works best for me at the same time before thanking yes or no for more heavy assignments," he writes.

"Dispute with the Swedish Tax Agency"

However, the leave application, which was approved last Friday, states another reason: "Ongoing dispute with the Swedish Tax Agency".

To David News Uppsala, David Perez does not want to develop the reasoning.

- The reason is stated on the leave application and it speaks for itself, he says.

You have been investigated by the Swedish Tax Agency and are required to pay SEK 6 million. Does this mean that you admit you did wrong?

- No, it does not. And I have nothing to add about it.

Did you submit your leave application on your own initiative?

- Of course, I did it on my own initiative, in consultation with the party.

The Swedish Democrats' press chief Henrik Gustafsson has previously stated that the party did not know about the tax evasion and called the information "engraving". The case is now being investigated internally.
