You don't have to be a political figure to run for municipal elections. In any case, these eight atypical candidates suggest. If we know them for their humorous, sporting, musical or even televisual careers, it is from now on on a completely different way that they launch out.

Comedian, sportsman, singer or even reality TV candidate: we weren't expecting them in politics. However, these eight candidates are trying the adventure of municipal elections. If some are simply on the list of one of the candidates from their city, others are at the top of the list. We find the humorists Rémi Gaillard and Jean-Marie Bigard, the sportsmen Vikash Dhorasoo, Jackson Richardson and the brothers Patrick and Hervé Revelli, the singer of the duo Stone and Charden, or the reality TV candidate Matthieu Sausset. Europe 1 draws up a portrait of these eight atypical candidates to follow during the next municipal elections, which will take place on Sunday 15 and 22 March.

Rémi Gaillard: the municipal "clown" in Montpellier

This is not just another hoax: Rémi Gaillard is a good candidate for municipal elections in Montpellier. It was in an interview with Midi Libre that this native of the Hérault city formalized his candidacy: "Since each election is a new hoax, since the politician is sadly laughing, perhaps we must finally elect a real clown". He also punctuates his tweets relating to municipal elections with the clown emoji , in which he invokes the candidates from Montpellier and the way the campaign is waged. He also posted a campaign poster on Twitter that painted Barack Obama's in 2008, featuring his campaign slogan "Vote for a Real Clown, Vote Anyone". On it, the videographer wears a red nose. The tone is set.

Hi there @BarackObama,
As agreed, my poster for the 2020 municipal elections.
Yes we clown

Heya Barack Obama,
As promised, here is my campaign's billboard for the 2020 municpals # YesWeClownpic.twitter.com / dquO1Vb9a6

Jean-Marie Bigard: to "entertain" Parisians

Jean-Marie Bigard was also not kidding when he revealed that he was running for municipal office. It was in a tweet that the comedian announced that he was joining the list of showman Marcel Campion, candidate for Paris City Hall. He said in his own way that he ignored the political aspect of the election. On the contrary, what Marcel Campion and he have in common is entertainment, on which they founded their political alliance. "Like the fairgrounds, my only goal is to entertain the people," he wrote in his tweet of October 3, 2019. Jean-Marie Bigard is the deputy for the author Sylvie Bourgeois, head of the list in the 6th arrondissement .

The friends
I joined the support committee of Marcel Campion because we have one thing in common: like the fairgrounds, my only goal is to entertain the people. That's all. Nothing to do with politics.
I'll leave you, I'm going to take a nap and scratch my balls in front of the TV

Vikash Dhorasoo: attacking midfielder for the rebellious La France team

It is no longer the jersey of the French football team that Vikash Dhorasoo wears, but that of La France rebellious. Indeed, the former attacking midfielder of the France team is the head of the list "Décidons Paris!" in the 18th arrondissement of Paris. In partnership with Danielle Simmon, he leads this list supported by La France Insoumise. Among his municipal fights, we find in particular the subject of the municipalization of canteens.

The Revelli brothers: enemy brothers in politics

If the brothers Patrick and Hervé Revelli played together on the field at AS Saint-Etienne in the early 1970s, they are now opposed in politics ... in their city. And neither of them wears the color green. Patrick Revelli is the head of the La République en Marche party. The latter has already participated in the life of the Saint-Etienne town hall. He was, in fact, technical advisor to the cabinet of Maurice Vincent, PS mayor of Saint-Etienne and president of Saint-Etienne Métropole from 2008 to 2014. His older brother Hervé Revelli is not at the head of the list. He supports, not his brother, but the outgoing LR mayor of the city, Gaël Perdriau.

Jackson Richardson: from OM to the mayor of Marseille

It is not just footballers who play on the political field. Jackson Richardson, former handball world champion, has joined the list of Senator LR Bruno Gilles who is running for municipal elections in Marseille. The handball player is mandated to deal with sport in Marseille. "My label is not politics, it's sport," he told La Provence. It is also in Marseille that the latter began his sports career, at OM Vitrolles.

Stone (without Charden): it's the political "aventura"

It is without his sidekick Charden that we find Stone, not in music, but in politics. The singer launches, in fact, in the municipal political "aventura". Annie Gautrat, her real name, is on the list of Fernand Spaccaferri, outgoing UDI mayor of Commentry. The singer lives half of the year in this town of 6,000 inhabitants located in the Allier. If the role she will play in this list is not yet known, we do know, however, that Annie Gautrat is very invested in the animal cause.

Matthieu Sausset: from reality TV candidate to municipal candidate

From reality TV candidate to municipal candidate, there is only one step. Not that Matthieu Sausset has crossed. The latter was discovered by the general public thanks to his participation in the program "Married at first sight" broadcast on M6. It is now in a completely different register that we find. He is, in fact, head of the list in the 6th arrondissement of Lyon, chosen by the centrist Denis Broliquier. For the time being, we therefore do not know either the outcome of the program which has not yet been broadcast, or that of the municipal authorities for this candidate with multiple hats.
