American lawmakers from the Republican Party in Maryland, in the eastern United States, criticized a history lesson comparing US President Donald Trump to Nazis and Communists inside a government school in the Baltimore area.

Maryland's House Representative Katie Zelika denounced on her Twitter page, what she said was "educational violations and propaganda" against President Donald Trump.

The Republican MP published a picture of a presentation by a professor at a government school in the Baltimore district. The presentation includes a picture of President Donald Trump accompanied by two images, one for the Nazi flag and the other for the symbol of Soviet communism.

The owner of the show attached the photo to a comment that reads: "He (Trump means) wants to bring people together in a group and build a huge wall ... so it sounds familiar."

In response to the controversy raised by the photo, a spokesman for Baltimore District Schools said that the lesson "was not intended to express a political position, and in the case of a student expressing his concern while discussing a controversial topic, schools have systematic tools to address this anxiety and support the students."

"Separating the image from its context may cause misunderstanding," the spokesman said in a statement carried by local media in Baltimore, adding that "the topics discussed in the controversial lesson included the First and Second World Wars and the attempts of some leaders to reduce or limit immigration to some countries."
