February 23, 2020 The alarm of the infection from Coronavirus also arrives in Venice, and this time it hits the city in the heart of its most 'international' party, the Carnival, which attracts even more Italian and international visitors, but that from midnight will have to forcefully stop .

Two elderly octogenarians from the lagoon city are hospitalized in intensive care at the civil hospital in Venice. Two new cases that "not a little" worry the president of Veneto, Luca Zaia, who from the civil protection task force in Marghera stressed that the two "had no contact with the Chinese community; we are reconstructing their history and proceeding, as from protocol, in concentric phases to trace the contacts they had ". The evolution of cases in the regional capital, with the outbreak of Vo 'Euganeo and the isolation of the hospital of Schiavonia, has thus induced Zaia to sign, in agreement with the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza, the ordinance that imposes a further crackdown on security measures.

So stop at Carnival, from midnight, and close of gathering and entertainment places, schools and museums, until Sunday 1st March. In the evening, the Patriarch of Venice, Msgr. Francesco Moraglia, aligned himself with the civil ordinance by arranging the suspension of Mass celebrations, funerals, pastoral activities, always until Sunday. The decision on Carnival was not surprising, also because in recent days the turnout of visitors in San Marco square had no longer exceeded the 30,000 mark on Sunday for the 'Flight of the Angel'. This morning, for the 'Flight of the Eagle' played by Kristian Ghedina, there were still 20 thousand people, a figure which however did not require the adoption of the extraordinary measures - quota, deviations of the flows - foreseen by the Municipality.

From the organizers, satisfaction after 16 days of events, in the lagoon and on the mainland. "The management - underlines an official note - thanks all the people who worked on the event. The next edition of the Venice Carnival will be held from Saturday 30 January to Shrove Tuesday 16 February 2021".
