February 23, 2020 Slovak Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini has been hospitalized for a respiratory infection.

His office made it known in a statement, specifying that "Pellegrini was hospitalized last night at the home of an acute respiratory infection accompanied by high fever. Due to his conditions he canceled all his commitments" six days after the elections parliamentarians in Slovakia.

"At the worst time my health disappointed me," the 44-year-old Prime Minister, a member of the Social Democratic Party Smer, wrote in a post on Facebook, expressing the hope of being able to return to work immediately. Pellegrini returned to Bratislava on Friday night after the negotiating marathon in Brussels for the EU budget summit.
