A French court in Strasbourg is witnessing a strange case involving a 73-year-old French man, who was involved in sabotaging the wheels of veiled Muslim girls' cars.

The French mediapart site reported that the man confessed to the investigators that he was writing on the cars after sabotaging their wheels the phrase "no veil".

According to the French website, the Strasbourg court charged "John Pierre" with sabotage of property on the basis of religious affiliation.

He is expected to hear from him on the second of next June after his case was postponed due to the lawyers strike.

MediaPart says that if the charge against John Pierre is proven, he will be sentenced to three years in prison, with a fine of 45,000 euros.

The case could have passed without anyone noticing it had it not been for the uproar caused by a statement issued by the group against Islamophobia in France about the incident a few days ago, where right-wingers accused him of fabricating the story.

MediaPart noted that the story originated in 2017, when two Muslim girls with a veil filed a police complaint that their car's wheels had been vandalized with the words "No headscarf" written.

But the investigation at the time did not succeed in stopping the assailant, as surveillance cameras did not reveal his license plate number.

Two years later, the incident occurred with another woman and in the same area, but this time the cameras clearly showed the face of the accused, who was arrested on August 14, 2019, and he recognized what he had done.
