Israeli media sources said that a number of rockets were launched this evening from the Gaza Strip towards southern Israel, and that the Iron Dome system responded to a number of them.

These attacks come only hours after the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and Islamic Jihad and the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the crime of running over an Israeli bulldozer, a Palestinian youth, and abusing his body near the separation fence in the Khan Yunis area, south of the Strip.

The Al-Quds Brigades (the military wing of the Islamic Jihad Movement) said that the martyr Muhammad Ali Al-Naem (27 years old) is one of its members, while the occupation army said that he killed a Palestinian who tried to plant explosives near the separation fence.

"Al-Quds Brigades" claimed responsibility for firing rockets from the Gaza Strip, and she said - in a statement - "The Al-Quds Brigades claim responsibility for the bombing of the Zionist settlements this evening, which comes in response to the assassination of the Mujahid martyr Muhammad al-Naem and the abuse of his body."

The Israeli occupation army confirmed that 21 rockets were actually fired from Gaza into Israeli territory, noting that the Iron Dome system intercepted 10 of them, while most of the other rockets landed in uninhabited areas.

Israeli Channel 13 said that an unspecified number of rockets were fired at the areas of Ashkelon, Sderot, Kisufim, Karm Abu Salem and other areas.

The channel noted that the municipality of Ashkelon ordered the opening of shelters due to intense missile strikes from the Strip.

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz said - on its website - that the sirens sounded in Ashkelon and Sderot.

The newspaper quoted paramedics as saying that they had not received any reports of injuries.
