When the staff found the man lifeless in the cell, they alerted the ambulance and began cardiac and respiratory rescue. After repeated attempts at resuscitation for about half an hour, it was found that the man's life could not be saved.
- It's a tragic event. Our staff has done everything they could to save his life, but it was not possible, says Fredrik Wallin, detention officer at Kronoberg detention.
A police investigation, as well as an internal investigation, has been initiated.
- The cause of his death is being investigated. My assessment is that it was not self-harming but for other reasons, but it is speculative, says Fredrik Wallin.
