The debate over the lyrics of Swedish hip hop gained momentum when Malou von Sivers interviewed 18-year-old rapper Greekazo earlier this winter. The subsequent debate was, among other things, about racism, but also about the rough texts.

"Describes a reality"

"I'm not waiting to be shot brother, we're the ones shooting."

Behind the lyrics line is 1.Cuz, another of Sweden's most popular rappers who has also done songs together with Greekazo. He has a criminal past that he claims to have left, including with the help of music.

- I describe a reality people don't want to talk about, which is for real. Another side of society. I'm not a gangster for it, I'm a reality writer, he says in the Meeting.

- I didn't become a criminal because I listened to music. I became a criminal because I was left without a choice.

"You underestimate your music"

Lars El Hayek is a social democrat and municipal politician from Halmstad and thinks that famous rappers like 1.Cuz should take greater responsibility for his message.

In the new program Meeting 1.Cuz and Lars El Hayek are based on some of the roughest lines of text and the harshest criticism in an eye-to-eye conversation.

- I actually think you underestimate your own music, ie the power of the rap and hip hop. And then the question is: how do you want to change society? he says to 1.Cuz in the program.

Never shows up without a mask

1.Cuz never shows up as an artist without his mask, because he protects his privacy. However, SVT's editors have ensured that he is the one he claims to be.
