It was earlier this week that SVT News West reported on three confirmed cases of so-called "swatting" in three different locations in Sweden. Swatting is a dangerous ploy that means someone falsely alerts the police about ongoing hostage situations and then to see the police storm into a person's apartment.

The three cases took place in Falköping, Arvika and Västerås and had several details in common. In addition to the perpetrator's approach, and the fact that they hit the live broadcast on Twitch, relatives also suffered a false death message from someone who claimed to be "the police".

Now the police confirm further cases of swatting against two women in Western Sweden - one in Borås and one in Lerum. Both cases occurred before the three of which SVT News West previously reported. And the strange pattern repeats itself.

"Would evacuate due to gas leak"

- A neighbor of the woman in Lerum received a text message at 23.30 with the text: “I searched the nearby number on find.se. Someone has broken into my apartment and he won't let me leave. I am under threat, can you call the police, ”says Thomas Fuxborg, spokesperson for the police in the West region.

The message was then concluded with the woman's name and address. When the police went to the scene and searched the apartment it all turned out to be a false alarm. The affected woman tells SVT News West that a moment before the arrival of the police she had received a text message from the "police" stating that she had to vacate her apartment due to a gas leak.

About a month earlier, a woman from Borås had been visited by a police who searched her apartment for a suspected hostage seeker - but it all turned out to be a false alarm. Several of the woman's neighbors had received a text message stating that she was under threat. She had also received a text message from someone claiming to be the police, just before. Thomas Fuxborg reads:

- The message says “Clear the building due to gas leakage. Rescue ".

Both the woman from Lerum and the woman from Borås live on Twitch.
