According to experts, the retirement age of 55 years for women and 60 years for men was established in the 1930s on the basis of studies of the body's capabilities.

“As a result of surveys conducted during that period, it was revealed that the majority of working women lose their ability to continue working in the previous mode by 55 years, men by 60 years,” they note.

In addition, experts clarify that when establishing such a difference in the retirement age, the special role of a woman in raising a child was taken into account, in connection with which an additional burden is usually placed on her - household chores.

In 2000, these arguments were confirmed by the Constitutional Court of Russia, recall in the All-Russian Research Institute of Labor. It was emphasized that such an age difference was established due to physiological differences between the sexes, as well as due to the fact that in this way the state protects the rights of motherhood guaranteed in the Constitution.

As part of the latest changes in pension legislation, experts note that this difference has been maintained, however, additional pension benefits have been introduced for women with many children.

Earlier, the Ministry of Labor announced the indexation of social pensions by 6.1% from April 1, 2020.
