The report, which was published on Friday, is based on a survey conducted among the Swedish National Debt Office's employees, partly through in-depth interviews and partly through a web survey that all employees were given the opportunity to answer. Of just over 200 employees, 159 must have responded, ie 76 percent.

In total, three areas of improvement are highlighted. The first is that employees want a more strategic leadership, where the entire organization works in a common direction. The second area is that the Director of National Debt wants to take responsibility for the leadership of the entire authority. The third and final point is to seek a leadership that lives as you learn, by being predictable and balanced - as well as creating psychological security at meetings.

"Grateful"

In a press release, the Director of the National Debt Office, Hans Lindblad, writes that he must now accept the views and he receives support from the Board.

- I am grateful for the views my employees have given me. The insights I have gained I take to myself with humility. Based on this, I want to strengthen the National Debt Office and my own leadership together with my employees, says Director of National Debt Hans Lindblad.

- The Board notes that Hans shares the report's conclusions. The Board supports Hans and welcomes the initiatives he takes to develop his leadership together with his employees, says Chairman of the Board Gunilla Nordlöf.

Big losses behind the investigation

The Swedish National Debt Office made the decision to appoint an external inquiry in September last year, after Svenska Dagbladet and Dagens industri revealed major problems within the authority. Among other things, Hans Lindblad has made decisions that have been in conflict with expert opinions, which resulted in losses of hundreds of millions.

- A year or so ago, the Board decided to close that type of business at all. We do not think it is in accordance with the Swedish National Debt Office's mission to take as risky positions as it means, said the then Chairman of the Board Yvonne Gustafsson in September last year.
