Swiss Lara Gut (28), who had not won a World Cup race in more than two years, surprised everyone by winning the first downhill run in Crans Montana (Switzerland) on Friday.

Having started with race number 18, the Ticino completed the descent on the Mont Lachaux piste in 1: 27.11. She pushed all the competition to almost a second, her compatriot Corinne Suter, currently leading the World Cup in the discipline yielding 80 / 100th, to take second place.

In the fight for the big crystal globe, in the absence of the American Mikaela Shiffrin, the Slovak Petra Vlhova, 4th in Valais on Friday, made up a small part of her delay, just like the Italian Federica Brignone (7th ).

Shiffrin, who returned to Colorado after the sudden death of his father Jeff (65) on February 3, remains at the head of the general classification, now 77 points ahead of Brignone and 104 over Vlhova.

The weekend in Crans Montana continues on Saturday with a second descent, then an Alpine combined on Sunday.
