The detectors that operate within the framework of the SMART project of the University of Huelva from the astronomical observatories of Calar Alto (Almería), Sierra Nevada (Granada) and Seville have recorded the passage of a fireball over the center of the Iberian Peninsula to 80,000 kilometers per hour.

As reported by the principal investigator of the SMART project, the professor of the University of Huelva and the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia, José María Madiedo, this fireball was recorded at 4:31 pm last Wednesday.

A rock from an asteroid came into the Earth's atmosphere; It started at an altitude of about 99 kilometers, off the coast of Almeria . From there the fireball advanced southeastward.

Finally it became extinct at an altitude of 31 kilometers above sea level , on a point located about 70 kilometers from the coast of Almeria and about 90 kilometers from the coast of Algeria, after traveling a path of 81 kilometers in the atmosphere.

The detectors that have captured the fireball operate within the framework of the Southwest Europe Meteor and Boom Network (SWEMN) aim to continuously monitor the sky in order to record and study the impact against the earth's atmosphere of rocks coming of different objects of the Solar System.
