Around a dozen villages outside Skellefteå have so old and poor street lights that they need to be addressed immediately.

In some places they are already extinguished for security reasons.

Politicians and officials have recently visited these villages and shown their proposals where and how it should shine in the future.

- The discussion material was quite clear to the villagers, but I did so in order to get as much views as possible, says Anders Saadio, the municipality's director of lighting.

Hundreds of emails

The villagers appear to have taken him on the words for a couple of hundred emails since then. Deadline to think about is February 29th.

After the tour in the villages, the Community Building Committee has also backed down and wants to wait to decide on new lighting rules by the end of the year.

One of those who emailed is the chairman of Skellefteå village development council, Björn Lundmark, who also received many agitated conversations after the meetings.

- It's wise to push it forward. One should not make such a quick decision when it comes to such a big deal for us living outside the center.

Many question marks

Right now there are suggestions, with many question marks and getting clear answers.

Should the municipality, for example, be responsible for lighting on individual roads such as in the village of Burmoran?

Should the municipality light up the Swedish Transport Administration's roads in Långviken and Övre Bäck?

Anders Saadio today cannot promise that all 11,000 bright spots outside the city may be left.

- I don't think everyone will be satisfied, but hopefully the politicians can get an understanding of what is a reasonable level of lighting, he says.
