GAVA is the special emergency department at Karolinska in Huddinge for the elderly multi-ill. The department has been around for two years and here specialists from the emergency department, geriatrics and infection work together around the patient.
In March, the number of care places is increased from 14 to 24 care places.
- Through the fast track we can avoid complications that multi-sick patients can easily get in connection with the long wait, for example they get pressure ulcers or suffer from dehydration, says Hossein Abednazari, chief physician in geriatrics at the GAVA department at Karolinska University Hospital in Huddinge.
When the multi-sick patients, from mid-March, can receive faster care at GAVA, the hospital also expects shortening of the queues in the emergency room.
