It is on the government's initiative that the investigator has found 80 jobs that could be moved to Härnösand, but four of the five authorities that have responded so far do not want to relocate their operations.

- The fact that the state authorities, which are now in Stockholm, do not want to be relocated to a smaller town in Norrland is not very surprising. They are satisfied with the situation they have in Stockholm, says Ingrid Nilsson (V), first deputy chairman of the Härnösand municipal council.

It's not that simple, according to Olivia Wigzell, Director General of the National Board of Social Affairs. Her main argument for saying no to relocation is that the processing time for credentials for healthcare professionals would be longer.

- We know that when you change offices, the experience is that people quit before you can recruit new ones, and in that gap, the processing times can be longer. Then it takes time to build competence, she says.

Stays longer

In Härnösand City Hall you look at the question differently.

- The signals are that we lack expertise in northern Sweden and that there will be delays in their work. But what one knows is that staff employed at work tend to stay longer at their jobs than in the Stockholm area, says Ingrid Nilsson (V).

"Härnösand a good municipality"

Does the National Board of Health and Welfare recognize Härnösand?

- Not in any way, Härnösand is a good municipality and we will be able to recruit good people there, but we see a risk for longer processing times and we want to point that out, says Olivia Wigzell.

The issue of relocation of government jobs from Stockholm to Härnösand is decided by the government.
