Roger Federer was operated on the right knee Wednesday and will be absent until Roland-Garros included, announced the former world N.1 on Thursday on social networks.

"I have been experiencing discomfort in my right knee for a while. I was hoping it would go away, but after consulting and chatting with my team, I decided to have surgery yesterday (Wednesday) in Switzerland," writes Federer .

"Consequently, I will miss Dubai, Indian Wells, Bogota, Miami and Roland-Garros", adds the Swiss to the twenty crowns record in Grand Slam, which says "impatient to play again" and gives appointment for the season on grass .

Federer, who turns 39 in August, is reassuring after the arthroscopy he underwent: "The doctors are very confident about a complete recovery," he wrote.

This is the second time Federer has had a knee surgery, but in 2016 it was the left knee.

The Swiss, who had returned to Roland-Garros for the first time since 2015 last year and had risen there until the semi-finals, will not therefore repress Parisian clay in 2020.

The current world No. 3 and recent semi-finalist of the Australian Open plans to return to the circuit during the field season, which opens in mid-June.

Barely more than a month before the Tokyo Olympics, the last major challenge of his career, only Olympic gold in singles still escaped his impressive record.
