Freshly naturalized American, famous rocker Neil Young called to vote for the claimed socialist candidate Bernie Sanders during the presidential election in November, hammering that Donald Trump was a "shame" for his country.

In an open letter on his website, the singer lambasted the destruction by the American president of "our shared natural resources, our environment and our relationships with our friends around the world".

"You are a disgrace to my country," he insisted.

"I do not judge the people who voted for you. I support their right to speak out, even if they have been lied to and they believed these lies, they are real Americans," added the musician. 74 years old.

The Canadian rocker, who has lived in the United States for decades, acquired American nationality this year so that he could vote in the next presidential election.

In his letter, Young called for support for Democratic nomination candidate Bernie Sanders, saying he was looking to "directly protect the future of our children".

The musician also criticized Donald Trump's use of his songs during his election rallies, but admitted that he could do nothing to prevent it.

"Every time + Keep on Rockin 'in the Free World + or another of my songs is played at your meetings, I hope you hear my voice. Remember that it is the voice of an American citizen who pays his taxes and who doesn't support you, "he insisted.

The American president has in the past expressed his taste for Neil Young's music.

"I have listened to his music for years," said the Republican billionaire in 2008 to Rolling Stone magazine.

With forty studio discs to his credit, the rock legend released in October 2019 his last album entitled "Colorado", focused on climate protection.
