The Deputy Commissioner of Police of the Kingdom of Lesotho said today, Thursday, that the country's Prime Minister, Thomas Thabane, will soon be accused of killing his wife.

The previous first lady, Leopolio Thabane, was shot in June 2017 near her home in Maseru. The current wife of Prime Minister Misaya Tabani was detained this month and charged with inciting the crime.

"The prime minister will be charged with murder," said Deputy Commissioner Basika Mukiti. "The police are preparing directions, and they will likely be charged tomorrow."

Misaya Tabani married Prime Minister Thomas Tabani in 2017 and went into hiding since mid-January, after the police summoned her to interrogate her in the shooting of the former first lady, Lippolillo Tabani.

Tabani surrendered two weeks ago and appeared in court, handcuffed, under heavy police guard.

The court said that Misaya Tabani had the right to request bail, but the Deputy Commissioner of Police said that they would object to any request for bail because the accused had previously fled abroad.

The former wife of the Prime Minister was killed in June of 2017, whom Misaya married shortly after his death, and before he began his second term in office in the small kingdom completely surrounded by South Africa.
