A town hall secretary from two towns in the Manche was summoned to the Coutances (Manche) court on January 30. She was accused of having embezzled public money between 2014 and 2018 for a total amount of around 136,000 euros, reports La Presse de la Manche .

For four years, this employee embezzled money in the two communes for which she worked. She committed these acts alone in order to pay for living expenses. In total, she diverted 117,350 to the town hall of Mesnilbus and 18,745 euros to Laulne.

Mayors convicted of "negligence"

The mayors of the two municipalities and a treasury official were also tried for "negligence". The town hall officer was acquitted by the court but the Mesnilbus city councilor was sentenced to a suspended fine of 1,000 euros and that of Laulne was fined 500 euros suspended.

The main accused, for her part, was found guilty and sentenced to two years in prison, one of which was suspended. It will also have to reimburse the full amount diverted, as indicated in the verdict rendered on Wednesday.
