In the final 700-page final report presented by the Municipal Inquiry on Wednesday, there are a number of proposals that will affect the municipal sector in the future. Among them is the question of reviewing the state grants to the municipalities as well as the tax equalization system.

- These are important issues that we will need to discuss for a long time to come, says the regional council Stina Höök (M) on the report's report.

Can get rid of the debts

Among the proposals that will affect the municipalities more directly if implemented are the proposal that the municipalities that choose to merge with another municipality get rid of their debts. It is a proposal that would allow all of Värmland's municipalities to get rid of their debts by conducting a merger with one or more neighboring municipalities.

- I don't think that's what matters. It is about what sense of belonging you have. In addition, the municipalities have a total debt of around SEK 800 billion and it is not so easy to just write off such amounts, says Stina Höök (M).

Student loans can be written down

The municipal survey also proposes that 60 of the country's municipalities should be covered by the possibility for academics who live and work there to have their student loans written down. Six of the municipalities are located in Värmland.

- We see that we have problems with the provision of skills in all areas throughout Värmland. It may make sense to test such variants, says Stina Höök (M).
