It was during Monday morning that staff at the swimming and sports hall in Tranemo warned that rainwater had entered the basement. The building - and all associated operations - was closed down immediately.
- We run staff around the clock and pump as much as we can, but unfortunately the forecast does not look so good going forward, says Anders Hernelind, unit manager for real estate in Tranemo municipality.
Penetrates through wellsIn the hall there are both pools, gyms and gym. Something used not least by the municipality's schools. The lessons are consequently canceled during the week, and even sports associations that are located in the premises may suspend their workouts.
- It's really boring. The water presses from below, up through the drains into the wells, both in the showers in the changing rooms and in the basement. We have 5-10 centimeters of water on the floor, says Anders Hernelind.
Heavy rainfallThe reason is all the rain that has been pouring down over the municipality lately, says Anders Hernelind. This has led to flooding in the countryside, and it is not just the swimming and sports halls that have taken in water: Also a woodworking hall at a nearby school is being emptied.
Have you had such problems before?
- No, I've never been to anything like it. And not when I hear from colleagues who have worked here longer than me either. So it's exceptional right now, says Anders Hernelind.
Dark forecastThe swimming and sports halls are closed until Sunday. On Monday, a new decision will be made.
- We work both morning and evening, and have put almost all the power on floods lately. There is a risk that it will damage the building, so it is important that we get the water out as soon as possible.
