The four French missing since Sunday after the crash of a small passenger plane off the coast of Dominica have still not been found. The prefecture of Guadeloupe announced this Tuesday afternoon that research will stop.

The rescuers carried out "more than 40 hours of research in difficult weather conditions," said the prefecture in a press release. “Unfortunately, there is no longer any hope of finding survivors. "

Personal effects found

The Piper type PA 28 passenger plane crashed into the sea on Sunday evening when it had just taken off from Dominica's Charles Douglas airport. Four people were on board: a 55-year-old couple, their 16-year-old son and a 40-year-old man.

All the passengers were French. "Despite the substantial system put in place, the searches have only found the passengers' personal effects and plane debris," the press release said.
