According to the publication, this is the first visit of Pompeo to Saudi Arabia since the assassination of Iranian general Kassem Suleimani.

The head of the State Department will hold talks with King Salman bin Abdel Aziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, and will also meet with Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.

“We will devote a lot of time to negotiations on security in the light of outgoing threats, especially from Iran,” Pompeo said before leaving for Addis Ababa to Riyadh.

Among other things, the parties intend to discuss issues of economic relations between the countries.

Earlier, adviser to the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Akbar Velayati, said that the era of the American presence in Iraq and Syria has come to an end. He also noted that the United States faces a “second Vietnam” in the event Washington refuses to withdraw American troops from the Middle East.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry said that the Islamic Republic was close to a war with the United States after the assassination of General Kassem Suleimani.
