During a press conference on February 18, the African Union high representative for Mali and for the Sahel (Misahel), Pierre Buyoya , affirmed that the security situation in the sub-region had strongly degraded over the past year.

To reverse the trend, we must " review governance and security strategy " before encouraging Mali to commit to " continuing " negotiations with terrorists, according to Pierre Buyoya, also a former president of Burundi.

We, the African Union, strongly support this initiative of dialogue with those who are the leaders of terrorist groups. It is one of the ways to end the war. Especially if they are Malians, we encourage them to do so, "he said while acknowledging that it was" a difficult undertaking ".

In this conference, I reaffirmed the support of the AU for the priority programs of the Malian Government, in particular with regard to the implementation of the recommendations of the Inclusive National Dialogue: elections, RSS / DDR, rereading of the Peace Agreement. pic.twitter.com/nuOm4wBsPe

Engaging in dialogue does not exclude the use of force concomitantly. " This is what the liberation movements called " fight and talk "," adds Pierre Buyoya, who hopes for Mali that the dialogue with the terrorists will lead to a solution like that of the Algerian neighbor.
