The development of artificial intelligence is one of the main issues for the new European Commission. Its president, Ursula von der Leyen, even wanted to introduce a law in the field within 100 days of taking office, before March 9. Given the complexity of the subject, Thierry Breton, the commissioner in charge of the file, prefers the option of a white paper.

Brussels first wants to establish a clear framework and rules. The European Union also intends to invest in developing infrastructure, creating a "common information space", a sort of single market facilitating the storage, circulation and analysis of data. Finally, the EU wants to allow the training of qualified personnel. This will obviously involve significant investments, which must receive the green light from the heads of state. They also meet Thursday to discuss the multi-year budget 2021-2027.
