The Rassemblement national intends to “create a surprise” in Gironde and targets some town halls during the next municipal elections. Among them, Saint-Savin de Blaye, in northern Gironde, where Marine Le Pen's party has invested its departmental manager, Edwige Diaz. Allied with the former UMP mayor Jean-Claude Récappé, she will face the outgoing mayor, the socialist and vice-president of the departmental council Alain Renard.

The MoDem Gironde announced on Tuesday its decision "to unite with the Republican front at Saint-Savin de Blaye" and to support "the candidacy of the outgoing mayor, Alain Renard. "As everywhere in France where it proves essential, this alliance intervenes for the sake of unity, in order to face the extreme right list of the National Rally" continues the MoDem in its press release.
