According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Bogdanov held talks with members of the Hamas leadership Khaled Mashaal, Musa Abu-Marzuk and Sami Khater.

“An in-depth exchange of views took place on the issue of restoring Palestinian national unity and the prospects for resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on a well-known international legal basis, including relevant resolutions of the Security Council and the UN General Assembly and the Arab Peace Initiative,” the commentary says.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that the US approach to the “deal of the century” ignores internationally recognized norms of a Middle East settlement.

On January 28, American leader Donald Trump presented his plan for a Middle East settlement, according to which Jerusalem becomes the indivisible capital of Israel, with the Palestinian capital being created in East Jerusalem. In addition, Israel gains sovereignty over the Jordan Valley.
