The main thing is to create opportunities and manage the situation in the districts of Berg, Ryd and the one on the police list of particularly vulnerable areas - Skäggetorp.

- Linköping woke up a couple of years ago when he said that "this is a particularly vulnerable area". Since then, we have worked to ensure that we get a stable organization to meet this new situation, says Karin Olanders, cultural and leisure director at Linköping.

Information flow and quick action

The model is called EST and stands for Effective Coordination for Security. The approach is that local reporters linked to various businesses and organizations in an area with shorter intervals - for example on a weekly basis - submit reports to key functions within the municipality, police and real estate companies.

The key functions assess the situation and summarize a situation picture. The snapshot is analyzed and the information is compiled.
Any proposals for measures are forwarded to the next function which has a mandate for decision. After measures have been implemented, the result and effect are analyzed.

Everything is aimed at promoting coordination and coming to crime prevention and security-creating solutions faster.

Do you see any weaknesses with this model?

- We don't know until we've tested. With a proper focus, we believe it can produce results, says Karin Olanders.

Many other municipalities in the country work like this now. Why are you so late on this puck?

- Yes, it might be time now. Maybe it was time ... a while ago.
