A 24-year-old boy died from a stabbing on Saturday in Dunkirk, in the North. A 50-year-old was charged with "repeat murder" and placed in pre-trial detention Sunday, after the death of the victim in hospital, we learned from the prosecution.

Two weeks ago, an assault took place in the same area. A volunteer firefighter who was not on duty ended up in a hospital in a coma.

Already convicted in 2001 for murder

The man had been assaulted with a stabbing weapon, on the night of Friday to Saturday, around 2 a.m. on the embankment of the Allies, opposite the beach of Malo-les-Bains, which is lined with bars and restaurants. At least three people were then with him and had witnessed the facts, according to the prosecution.

Two men, a fifties "born in 1961" and his son, were quickly arrested and placed in police custody. The 50-year-old, "suspected of having carried the fatal stab" and already convicted in 2001 for murder, was indicted on Sunday evening for "repeat murder". He had been released from prison "for several years".

Her son, born in 1992, who "was also in possession of a knife", is prosecuted for "a related offense of carrying a prohibited weapon", detailed the prosecution. He was placed under judicial supervision. "The suspect was alcoholic at the time of the facts," added the prosecution, adding that the attack seems to have been committed "without premeditation" and "for a futile reason".
