Double ballot in Cameroon: start of the counting of votes

In Cameroon, the National Commission for the General Census of Votes begins its work on February 17, more than a week after the legislative and municipal elections. The announcement of the results must take place no later than February 29 after examining the appeals of the political parties who denounce the irregularities in which these elections were tainted.

In Cameroon, forty requests for partial or total cancellation of the double ballot of the legislative and municipal elections of February 9 have been filed with the registry of the Constitutional Council.
They were introduced by a dozen political parties, including the Social Democratic Front (SDF), the National Alliance for Democracy and Progress (ANDP) and even the Democratic Rally of the Cameroonian People (RDPC), a party in power, yet credited with a large advance to the next National Assembly, according to the first trends resulting from the counting.

The opening this February 17 of the work of the National Commission of the general census of voting should nevertheless give a boost to this process too long according to some. According to the electoral law, it cannot in any case go beyond twenty days as from the date of closing of the poll, as regards in particular legislative, that is to say at the very end of the current month, February 29, 2020.
However, in the meantime, the post-electoral litigation which will relate to the irregularities alleged by both has already been cleared. Despite this long wait and awaiting the official results, the polling station minutes already give each candidate an overview of his result.
