  • Like Ciara, the previous weekend, storm Dennis caused some damage on Sunday in the region.
  • Several house roofs were washed away by mini-tornadoes.

After Ciara, storm Dennis hit northwestern France on Sunday. The Hauts-de-France region was once again affected by the depression which caused heavy rain and strong winds.

In the north

This Monday morning, the fire and rescue service (Sdis) of the North listed nearly 450 interventions related to this weather phenomenon, during the last 24 hours. These were mainly falling trees, materials threatening the public highway and short circuits. "Two firefighters were slightly injured by falling materials," says Sdis.

Among the significant events, a violent gale, around 6:40 p.m., damaged the roofs of seven homes, two of which were completely destroyed, in Saulzoir, between Valenciennes and Cambrai, according to Sdis. In Cambrai, a fall from a tree on power lines caused an electrical outage for approximately 500 homes for approximately two hours, between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Sunday evening, around 8 p.m., around 3,300 households remained without electricity, mainly in the Avesnois and in the Lille metropolis. "Our 300 technicians worked during the night from Sunday to Monday to restore power as quickly as possible," emphasizes Enedis Nord-Pas-de-Calais.

In the Pas-de-Calais

Just over 200 interventions were recorded in Pas-de-Calais, half of which were in the Calais and Lens sectors. The vast majority concerned falls or threats of falling materials.

Damage was most severe in Liévin, according to La Voix du Nord . In the city of Beavers, in Liévin, a mini-tornado, which started shortly after 6 p.m., swept away the roof of two terraced houses, which tore off electrical cables before being embedded in the front of a another house a few dozen meters away.

In the Somme

The firefighters had to intervene 70 times in the Somme, notably in Amiens and in the east of the department. The most serious alert was recorded in Péronne. Part of the zinc roof of the church was threatening to fly away. At around 10 a.m., specialists from the perilous intervention group (Grimp) had to secure the premises.
