A thirty-year-old was placed in police custody on the night of Sunday to Monday in Salon-de-Provence, in the Bouches-du-Rhône, after the discovery of the body of his mother, whom he is suspected of having killed then cut into pieces

The police, alerted by relatives who had no further news of the victim, discovered the body of the latter "in several pieces spread all over the house," said the prosecution of Aix-en-Provence, confirming information from the newspaper La Provence.

One of his sons, 36, who was at his home when the police arrived, has been taken into police custody, the prosecution added, adding that he "has a psychiatric history". The circumstances surrounding the death of the 57-year-old woman "are not yet clear at this stage," said the prosecution. The criminal investigation for assassination was entrusted to the departmental security of Marseille.
