The station of Luchon-Superbagnères, in Haute-Garonne, received yesterday a delivery of snow by helicopter to allow the skiers to go down the tracks, indicates France 3. Another delivery is planned for Saturday.

To allow skiers on vacation to descend the slopes, even when the amount of snow is insufficient, some resorts do not hesitate to resort to great resources. In Luchon-Superbagnères, the Haute-Garonne departmental council has thus decided to have snow delivered ... by helicopter, according to information from France 3.

Natural snow

With the local media, the departmental council justifies this measure by the need to "guarantee the activity of the Superbagnères ski school in the days to come". The snow delivered is natural. The operation was carried out on Friday and must be repeated on Saturday. It should make it possible "to snow the ski lifts starting from the plateau and to guarantee 15 days of activity for the ski schools", according to the same source.

In addition to the ecological questions raised by this approach, it has a considerable financial cost: 5,000 euros in total. "As soon as temperatures allow, the snow cannons will resume the production of artificial snow in this priority area for the smooth running of the ski area", specifies the departmental council.
