The President of the Sovereign Council of Sudan, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, said today that Israel has a role in the issue of removing the name of Sudan from the American list of state sponsors of terrorism.

Al-Burhan added in an interview with Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper that he is awaiting the completion of procedures to set a date to go to the United States to meet with US President Donald Trump.

He explained that his meeting with the outgoing Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, on February 3, was part of Sudan's search for its national and security interests.

And the proof continued, "The contacts will not be broken in light of the presence of great welcome and consensus within Sudan."

He pointed out that "he will work to achieve the interests of Sudan whenever the matter is available, and that the executive will take care of arranging future contacts and managing diplomatic relations once there is agreement on their establishment."

He pointed out that "the formation of a mini-committee to continue to discuss the matter, especially that the normalization of relations between Sudan and Israel, receives widespread popular support and is rejected only by limited ideological groups."

The proof affirmed that the appearance of those wanted by the previous regime before the International Criminal Court does not mean their extradition to be tried in The Hague, according to the newspaper.

He said that the issue of obtaining the form and venue of the trial is subject to review and discussion between the concerned agencies in the government and its partners.

On the crisis in Yemen, he said, "We are in favor of a political solution and the restoration of calm in Yemen."

He added that the current military presence within the coalition forces in Yemen, and the issue of the survival or withdrawal of the Sudanese forces "are dependent on what can be realistically achieved regarding a political solution, in a way that achieves the interest that led to the formation of the coalition."

And on the thorny issues in the relationship with Cairo and the Libyan file, Al-Burhan explained that Sudan addresses the common issues in a way that preserves the interests of the two peoples.

On October 6, 2017, the Trump administration lifted economic sanctions and a trade embargo imposed on Sudan since 1997 but has not removed its name from the list of what it considers "terrorism-sponsoring states" included in it since 1993, to be hosted by the late al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

And on Sunday, protesters near the presidential palace in Khartoum staged a demonstration in refusal to meet Burhan Netanyahu in Uganda on Monday.

Participants in the stand raised banners rejecting the American peace plan, and chanted slogans against the proof and the transitional government, and chanted slogans such as "We will not hand, we will not sell."

The Sudanese army closed the roads surrounding the palace before the time limit for the demonstration, and prevented the participants in the stand from approaching the palace gate.
