The vast majority of companies on the list are Israeli, but the report also includes a number of international companies in the travel industry such as Airbnb, Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia. Several of them offer or mediate rental of housing in the Israeli settlements on the West Bank, areas that are considered illegal by a large part of the international community under international law.

Israel strongly critical

The report neither calls for sanctions against the companies nor has any direct concrete impact on them. But the list still irritates the galls of the Israeli government. In a statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticized the UN Human Rights Agency, which compiled the list.

- Instead of being a human rights management organization, it is just trying to reduce Israel.

Israel's nail polish policy

Israel and the US accuse the UN body of being anti-Israel. The United States left the Council in 2018 after authoritarian governments that have violated human rights were allowed to participate.

The Council brings together 47 governments, with countries such as Libya, Venezuela and Somalia as members. An overwhelming part of the resolutions focuses on Israel and the treatment of Palestinians. Israel is the only country in the world whose policies automatically nail at every meeting, according to the AP News Agency.

"It is a victory for international law"

Israel is worried that the list will lead to corporate boycotts, but the Palestinians pay tribute to the publication.

"It is a victory for international law and diplomatic efforts," said Palestinian Foreign Minister Riad Malki.

The international human rights organization Human Rights Watch also supports the report.

"This list should mean that all companies now become aware that they are involved in facilitating war crimes when doing business in the settlements," said Bruno Stagno, Vice President of Human Rights Watch.

The San Francisco-based company Airbnb said in 2018 that the website would stop conveying housing in the settlements. But since then, the company has changed. Airbnb does not want to comment on the UN list.
