  • Politics. The PP and Cs, forced to negotiate expressly for the Basque and Galician elections

The conversations between the PP and Citizens to close lists of the center-right unit in Galicia , the Basque Country and Catalonia are stranded by the PP's refusal to negotiate a coalition in Galicia .

The president of the Xunta, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has three consecutive absolute majorities and strongly refuses to dilute his party in a coalition with Cs, which has very little representation in that community. The national PP, for the moment, supports the position of the PP of Galicia ( PPdeG ).

Citizen sources are threatening not to continue talks about the Basque Country and Catalonia if the PP continues to reject the coalition in Galicia: "What cannot be is that the constitutionalists join us only where the PP is electorally interested," they said.

Galicia was the main obstacle of the complicated first meeting on Tuesday between number two of the PP, Teodoro García Egea, and the deputy of Cs José María Espejo-Saavedra . Cs sources say that the popular responsible did not clarify his position on Galicia. However, both the post-meeting PP statement and the official sources of Genoa are very clear: there will be no coalition in Galicia because there is no problem of fragmentation of the center right.

As García Egea said on Wednesday in La Sexta , "in Galicia, even members of Ciudadanos admit that the PP has a brand that brings together the entire right-wing center and even many people from the center-left."

Feijóo rules out a coalition with Cs

This Wednesday, Feijóo took a new twist: he totally ruled out going in coalition with Cs because he understands that this would make the " popular" in the community disappear and only offered to integrate some of the members of Cs in the PP lists.

In an interview at Cope , Feijóo addressed Cs in very hard terms: "If what they want is to look for notoriety, raise a party that is not at its best or seek an argument to emerge ... it would be the opposite of what Cs is announcing, "he warned.

The Galician president added that if Inés Arrimadas wants to "stop nationalism" by acting "in good faith" the agreement may exist. "If we want to help each other we will help each other," he said. Later, he made it clear that this cooperation will never pass to dilute the popular Galicians in a coalition when the PP is the hegemonic force of the center-right in that community.

"If the sum of 41 seats plus zero [those with the PP and Cs] means that we have to change or disappear as the acronym that proposal is not honest," he said.

In the 2016 Galician elections, the PP won 682,000 votes (47.5%) and 41 seats - three more than the absolute majority. Cs, meanwhile, received 48,500 votes (3.38%), so it did not approach the minimum of 5% needed to get representation in the House. In the general elections of November 10, Cs obtained in Galicia 64,700 votes (4.35%) against the 470,000 of the PP (31.94%).

"Galicia, Euskadi and Catalonia are a 'pack'"

In response to these claims, sources close to Arrimadas continue to continue negotiations only if the three coalitions advance at the same time. "Galicia, Euskadi and Catalonia are a pack, " said those sources.

From the Cs Manager they warn that they totally discard Feijóo's integration proposal. In case there is no agreement in Galicia, the orange formation will attend the elections alone. "Cs is a national political formation and is presented to the elections throughout Spain," they explained.

In the national direction of the PP do not believe the ordago. In conversation with THE WORLD, sources from Genoa strongly affirm that "there will be no Galicia Suma nor, probably, a PP-Citizen ballot".

"Cs does not exist in Galicia, there constitutionalism is not in danger and Feijóo, most likely, will once again have an absolute majority," added official sources of the training chaired by Pablo Casado.

"If Galicia prevents Cs from going in coalition with the PP in Euskadi, they will pay more expensive consequences," they add from Genoa. In the PP remember that Cs has no representation in the Basque Parliament and that, probably, it will not get it now that the training is in crisis if it is not in coalition with the PP.

Be that as it may, there are only nine days left until the coalitions have to appear both in Galicia and in the Basque Country. Sources of both parties add that the negotiation will last until the last day.
