11 February 2020 Population continues to decline: as of 1 January 2020, the number of residents is 60 million 317 thousand, 116 thousand less on an annual basis.

The data are from Istat in the annual report on demographic indicators.

The gap between births and deaths is increasing: only 67 children arrive per 100 deceased persons. Ten years ago there were 96.

In 2019 there were 435 thousand births in Italy, the lowest figure ever found in the country's history since 1918

If the population decreases, life expectancy increases. In 2019, nationally men touched 81 years, women 85.3.

For some as for the other the increase on 2018 is equal to 0.1 tenths of the year which corresponds to an extra month of life.
