30 years ago, Nelson Mandela was released from prison - 20 Minutes

Just 30 years ago, on February 11, 1990, Nelson Mandela left Victor Vester prison, near Cape Town, in South Africa. The oldest and most famous political prisoner in the world, he has been imprisoned for twenty-seven years because of his fight against Apartheid. "All my life [...] I cherished the ideal of a free and democratic society in which all people would live together in harmony and with the same opportunities", he declared during his trial in 1964. Elected prize Nobel Peace Prize winner in 1993 and President of his country in 1994, Nelson Mandela worked for reconciliation in his country. He died on December 5, 2013. He remains one of the greatest defenders of human rights.
