A British Airways Boeing 747 has set a new record for crossing the Atlantic. The plane managed to reach London from New York in just 4 hours and 56 minutes, this Sunday morning, reports the site specialized in air movements Flightradar. The flight was originally scheduled to last 6 hours and 13 minutes.

Fastest across the Atlantic tonight from New York to London so far is # BA112 at 4hr56m. # VS4 in 4:57, and # VS46 in 4:59. https://t.co/gfYoHGV3Y6https://t.co/kMhjCqdEtt

If we're not mistaken, BA now retakes the fastest subsonic NY-London crossing from Norwegian. pic.twitter.com/Sr1GPeAjuh

This performance was made possible by the Ciara storm that hit Europe. It currently occurs in the north of France, the United Kingdom and Scotland.

Over an hour in advance for passengers

The winds could reach locally up to 160 km / h. The flight from New York's John Fitzgerald Kennedy Airport to London's Heathrow Airport was the fastest on record, excluding supersonic flights, Flightradar said.

This British Airways Boeing 747 flew at an average speed of over 1,100 km / h. He therefore arrived more than an hour ahead of the original schedule. The previous record set was in early 2018, when a Norwegian airline made the same trip in 5 hours and 13 minutes.
