The Emirates Council for Food Security discussed ways to enhance national food security in partnership with federal and local stakeholders.

This came during the presidency of the Minister of State for Food Security Maryam Bint Mohammed Al Muhairi, the first meeting of the Emirates Council for Food Security yesterday, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, in the presence of members of the Council, where they discussed the formation of national committees specialized in facilitating the global food trade, diversifying the sources of food import, and developing production Domestic and technology. The Council also discussed the establishment of an advisory committee to provide technical and technical support and technical studies for policy proposals on food security.

The council members discussed a number of important mechanisms to enhance the food security of the country, as the members approved the tasks of the council’s general secretariat to organize the council’s work and submit periodic reports to the relevant authorities, and the visual identity of the council that reflects the council’s role and importance in enhancing the food security of the United Arab Emirates was identified.

Al-Muhairi stressed that the council will play a vital role in leading the country’s food security system in light of the partnership and strategic cooperation between the various parties, in addition to engaging the community, which is a fundamental pillar in achieving food security in the UAE.

She said that the Emirates Council for Food Security is the central authority concerned with following up the implementation of the National Food Security Strategy within a shared vision to oversee the implementation of current and future plans and directions, to enhance the food security system in relation to food production and management and the entire food value chain.

The Emirates Council for Food Security operates according to studied priorities, plans and programs that take into account a number of trends, namely, emergencies, crises, strategic stocks, local agricultural production, food safety, external investment, diversification of import sources, and nutrition.
