The military spokesman for the Egyptian Armed Forces said that ten gunmen were killed and seven soldiers were killed and wounded in a clash in North Sinai Governorate.
"Members of the armed forces managed to thwart a terrorist attack on a security base in North Sinai," Colonel Tamer Al-Rifai said in a statement on his Facebook page.
Al-Rifai added that the security force was able to confront and attack the attacking elements, eliminate ten "terrorists" and destroy a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
He added that "as a result of the exchange of fire, two officers and five (military) ranks (ranks) were wounded and martyred," and that the forces are carrying out "combing and pursuit" activities in the area that witnessed the clash.
Meanwhile, local sources said to the island that the attack targeted a security barrier in the Sheikh Zuweid area, and killed eight soldiers, including two officers. The same sources also indicated that the Egyptian Air Force launched raids on the area, and that the electricity and communications were cut off.
And from time to time, separate areas are witnessing attacks against the army, police and civilians, their frequency has eased recently, and most of them have adopted the "Ansar Beit al-Maqdis" group, which declared its allegiance to ISIS in late 2014, and called itself "Sinai Province".
