" Dad wants the children to be isolated and not to interfere with Swedes to learn Swedish culture, " says the journal from the social service.

In 2006, a family arrives in Sweden, fleeing the war in Iraq. The oldest sister has burns on her face and hands after an explosion. Dad suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Now they will build a new life in Skåne.

In 2019, two of the family's seven siblings suddenly appear at the social service in Hässleholm. There, they tell of a veritable terrorism where honor culture has led to abuse and death threats. The daughters are forced to wear a veil, otherwise the father thinks they are "whores".

During the meeting, one of the three present social secretaries wonders if the children have any questions. They have:

" Will he find us? ".

Today, the verdict fell on the father, who is active in a mosque in Hässleholm. He is sentenced to eight years in prison.

Had to wear a veil

The lawsuit against the father, who claims that everything is invented, began in mid-January. He was charged with gross misdemeanor violation of his wife and gross misdemeanor violation against four of his children - this includes numerous cases of abuse, serious abuse, unlawful threats and unlawful coercion during the period 1 January 2015 - 17 September 2019.

The story was discovered when the children, pretending to go to school, instead escaped to the social office where they reported their father, who was subsequently arrested. Today the family lives in sheltered housing.

The preliminary investigation shows that this is a matter of honor violence.

- It's a lot of shame. Prosecutors describe how they should act so as not to bring shame home to the family, that he should not come on bad days and so on. So there are definitely parts of the honor pieces of this, prosecutor Malin Paulsson tells SVT News.

Malin Paulsson has in the past had many cases of serious violation of women's rights. But what distinguishes this case according to the prosecutor is the number of children who have also been subjected to serious breach of peace and the large amount of control that has been exercised.

- They should obey, they should have a veil, they should have long sleeves and long skirts, no form of skin should be shown except face and fingertips. If they have sandals it should be socks under and so on.

The mother was kept locked up

The mother, who has been married to the accused man since 1987, testifies to herself that she must have been kept locked up for ten years - she was given permission to plug SFI only when it became a requirement to receive a grant.

The threats, according to family members, have included phrases such as "I'll hack you" and "I'll muddle you". The abuse includes kicks, punches and a kebab skewer that the father should have used against the children.

“You fix kebabs with it, of metal, thin but wide. He always had it close. He hit me with it too. I think it was just me because I was closest, ”says one of the children in the interview.

At one point, the mother in the family must have been so badly beaten that she suffered miscarriage.

Prison and damages

The man is convicted of gross violation of the wife against the wife and gross violation of the four children. Lawyer Kristina Andersson says that, with her experience, it is an exceptionally serious crime and therefore the sentence has been decided to the most severe sentence.

The husband will also pay damages to his wife and four children, each with SEK 115,000

SVT News has sought the children's and mother's lawyers as well as the father's lawyer.
