The mobilization of around 40 firefighters made it possible to avoid the spread of flames to neighboring dwellings but not to save the occupants of the premises. Sunday evening, around 10:30 p.m., a man and his wife, aged 70, perished in the fire of their house located in Rochetaillée, near Saint-Etienne, in the Loire, reports Le Progrès.

When they arrived at the scene, the firefighters, alerted by the couple's neighbors, quickly intervened to try to save the flames from the septuagenarians and contain the fire. But the occupants, whose house was completely ravaged by fire, were found dead under the rubble of the house whose roof had collapsed. An investigation was opened to determine the origin of the fire, which could have been brought under control before reaching the adjoining dwellings.
