The invitation of a French deputy of Tunisian origin to boycott Tunisia, as a tourist, provoked angry reactions from the Tunisian government and from the pioneers of social networking sites, who saw it as incitement against their country.

The French representative of Tunisian origin, Mayer Habib, who holds Israeli citizenship according to Tunisian media, had called for a tourist boycott in response to President Qais Saeed's position, who ordered an investigation into the participation of an Israeli player in a tennis tournament in the Tunisian capital.

Tunisian Tourism Minister Roni Traboulsi condemned the statements of the French MP, and Tunisian media quoted him as saying that he was surprised by his attack on the Tunisian destination, especially that he is of Tunisian origin, and he knows very well that he, as Minister of Tourism in Tunisia, is a believer of the same religion.

He asked him to officially apologize to Tunisia for these statements, adding that for the first time in the history of Tunisia a public figure dared to call for a boycott of visiting the country.

According to local media, the French MP of French origin closed his Facebook page, in which he published the call to boycott Tunisia, following the criticisms and attacks that he was exposed to on social media platforms.
