Eight people became victims of a mass brawl in the Kordai district of the Zhambyl region of Kazakhstan. This was announced during a briefing by the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic Yerlan Turgumbayev.

“Eight people died from injuries. In the performance of official duties to protect public order, police officers also received various injuries, including two gunshot wounds. According to preliminary data, more than 30 private houses, 15 objects of trade, 23 cars were damaged as a result of hooliganism involving arson, ”Turgumbayeva quotes.

According to the Government of Kazakhstan, a total of 127 people applied for medical care, 84 of them were allowed to go home after examination.

“12 people were hospitalized in medical institutions, 20 people are under surveillance and are preparing for discharge. Five patients were transferred through air ambulance in Almaty and 1 patient to the Taraz hospital. The necessary medical assistance is provided to everyone in full, ”said the press service of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin.

According to the Consulate General of Russia in Alma-Ata, there are no Russian citizens among the victims and the dead.

Nearly 50 people detained

The Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic, Yerlan Turgumbayev, also announced the detention of 47 people and the beginning of a pre-trial investigation on articles on organizing and participating in mass riots (Article 272 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan) and murder (Article 99 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan).

According to him, the group fight began on Friday, February 7, at about 19:00 local time (16:00 Moscow time) on the outskirts of the village of Masanchi, where “about 70 aggressive-minded people gathered”. “The participants in the fight actively resisted the police and rude disobedience to their legal requirements. Hooligans used metal objects, stones, firearms. Later, the villages of Auhatta and Bulan-Batyr were also covered by conflicts. On the perimeter of settlements and approaches to them, roadblocks were put up on the roads, ”the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan explained.

According to the Minister of Information and Social Development of the Republic, Dauren Abaev, there was an initial domestic conflict that the instigators sought to translate "into an interethnic plane." He also urged journalists and bloggers to prevent the dissemination of fake information.

In this regard, Deputy Prosecutor General Bulat Dembaev recalled criminal liability for intentional actions to incite ethnic hatred and hatred. He also added that the investigation of the incident is under the personal control of the head of the department.

Tokaev's instructions

The situation in the Zhambyl region was also expressed by the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokaev. He commissioned the creation of a government commission to deal with the consequences of the events in the Kordai region, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Berdibek Saparbayev and an interdepartmental investigative and operational group. In addition, the head of state instructed the National Security Committee and the Prosecutor General’s Office to “bring to justice those who call for ethnic hatred, spreading provocative rumors and misinformation.”

All the families of the dead and wounded need to be provided with the necessary assistance. Now it is important to calm the population. He emphasized that peace and social harmony are the foundation of the state.
