RS Grönhögen has no more than 10-15 assignments per year, but despite this, the volunteer sea rescuers are always alert when there is a sharp situation. On Monday, February 25, they received an emergency alert on a Carmone fishing trawler. A man had been trapped in the trawl and had his fingers crushed.

- It was just to throw in the car and drive, says Leif Björkman at the station in Grönhögen.

The weather was favorable and the rescue boat, Rescue Väringen, was able to maintain a maximum speed of 30 knots.

Saved his hand

Göran Svensson and Leif Björkman were in place within an hour. They boarded the injured and dented Eric Gustavsson and took him to Grönhögen harbor where the ambulance was waiting.

Eric's fingers were able to fully recover his hand due to the fast procedure and skilled surgeons.

Now the sea rescuers in Grönhögen on Öland are nominated for this year's sea rescues.

- It is fun to get appreciation in this way, you are not used to it, it may perhaps arouse the thought of helping others, says skipper Göran Svensson.
